About TOEFL

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a standardized test designed to measure the English language proficiency of non-native speakers. It is widely accepted by universities, colleges, and institutions in English-speaking countries, particularly in the United States and Canada. Administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), the TOEFL assesses a test-taker’s ability to use and understand English in an academic setting.

The TOEFL is divided into four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. The Reading section evaluates comprehension skills through academic texts, the Listening section assesses the ability to understand spoken English in various contexts, the Speaking section measures the ability to express ideas verbally, and the Writing section tests the ability to compose structured essays.

There are two formats of the TOEFL: the TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test) and the TOEFL PBT (Paper-Based Test). The iBT is the more common format and is available in most parts of the world. The test scores are valid for two years and are used by academic institutions to evaluate the readiness of applicants for study in an English-speaking environment.
